THEMIS 5.0 – Responsible development of artificial intelligence
The THEMIS 5.0 tool shall foster transparency and trustworthiness in the development of AI services.
The use of tools and services based on AI technology is increasing across many disciplines, and it is crucial that developers make serious considerations about design, development, and the use of the products, they are developing. The aim of THEMIS 5.0 is to give AI-product developers a decisions-support tool, that can assist them during their product development, where increased reflection and of users can contribute to a better understanding of the sociotechnical contexts’ impact and thereby increase levels of transparency and trustworthiness in their tools.
Engagement is essential
It is particularly important that people who are forced to use AI tools in their work have trust in the tools, and therefore is it important for AI developers to take into considerations what special circumstances are present for the exact potential use case their product can end up in.
In THEMIS 5.0 the Danish Board of Technology is responsible for two rounds of engagement. In the first round, stakeholders and actors from three different sectors will be engaged in co-creation processes. The three sectors are health, news, and transportation logistics. Users, developers, and providers of AI tools will be invited to co-create the core principle for the THEMIS 5.0 tool, as well as experts within AI. In the second round of engagement, the focus will be narrowed down in health to cancer, in news to disinformation and in transportation logistics to port management. In this round a prototype of the tool will be examined and tested. Subsequently the THEMIS 5.0 tool will be tested by developers within the respective sectors.
The project runs from October 2023 to September 2026.
