LESGO – Light to Store chemical Energy for the green transition
In a long time, Windmills has been the focus for developing an efficient, safe, and sustainable storage of sustained electricity. LESGO is short for – Light to Store chemical Energy in reduced Graphene Oxide for electricity generation. The LESGO Project works on the possibility for hydrogen stored in graphene is a possible and responsible way of achieving this.
Outsourcing of fossil fuels
The green transition across the energy system contains a huge outsourcing of fossil fuels as oil and natural gas – especially in the transport system. This demands an innovation of new technologies for safely storage and later use for the energy that both Today and in the future is produced by e.g., windmills. There also must be analyzation and assessment of how these technologies for the future energy system can be integrated in the best and most responsible way.
This is how LESGO concerns the political wish of reducing the CO2 emission by the reduced use of fossil fuels. The same way energy companies across Europe spend billions in power-to-x-technologies in the attempt to be the first to use and gain benefit of the potential, in collaboration with technical universities.
About Power-to-x
Technology about Power-to-x deals with the conversion of electricity from windmills to a type of energy that are easy to storage e.g., hydrogen, e-methanol, or ammonia. In these years millions are spend on Power-tox projects also in Denmark. It is in the attempt to be strategically in finding important locations to establish for the access to electricity from windmills are best. The LESGO project develop a battery where graphite is stored and can release energy to e.g., a car battery without releasing CO2 and gain the possibility to reuse the graphite.
The Danish Board of Technology´s work with engagement
A long side with the development of the technology, the goal of the project is to build a coherent innovative and an ecosystem that is responsive and useable for the society. To get the possible perspectives on the challenges and possibilities the DBT will engage diverse group of actors, stakeholders, and citizens. Our focus in the project is how the society will welcome and use the technology. We do this through a series of workshops with experts in rights and ethics, law, social science, energy, environment, politic and economy and through various citizen assemblies.
Undreamt possibilities for the future
In the future it is expected that the Power-to-x-technology are a research area that will experience a huge interest and political attention, because of the expected importance of the green transition. At the DBT we also work on these issues and possible solves in another project LICROX. If the technology of the emission of the hydrogen from the graphene compared to the energy it takes to connect the hydrogen in the graphene this technology will have undreamt application.
