ETHNA Systems – An ethical monitoring infrastructure that will ensure responsible research and innovation

Great progress and new discoveries in research and innovation also create new potential consequences for society. It requires ethical dilemmas to be dealt with in a sustainable and responsible way, which ensure that research and innovation are based on society's needs, values and wishes - not only in theory, but also in practice.

How ETHNA work?

The EU-funded project ETHNA System is working to develop an ethical monitoring infrastructure for higher education institutions as well as funding and research units. The ETHNA system gathers, structures and ensures the monitoring of ethical responsibility in research and innovation projects via tools to build code, committee and hotline to help navigate ethical dilemmas, as well as an underlying structure to maintain and ensure their application. This infrastructure is developed in collaboration with stakeholders and through an inclusive testing phase where six institutions from five European countries implement and test it.

More responsible research

In the long term, the ETHNA system could be expanded and implemented in higher education institutions as well as funding and research units across Europe, with the aim of promoting responsible research and innovation based on the involvement of society and its citizens.

Buil on knowledge and experience from earlier projects

The project builds on engangement methods Living Lab and Quadruple Helix from previously European projects CLIQ, RiConfigureSiSCODE. Furthermore ETHNA are inspired på the ethical framing and monitoring from the SATORIproject.

With and for the society

ETHNA System is thus working to build an ethical monitoring infrastructure to ensure that research and innovation take place with and for society.
