EBRAINS – A research infrastructure developed through the Human Brain Project
The 10-year Human Brain Project is being finalized in September 2023. The project’s focus has been on one of the greatest mysteries of our time, the human brain. Collaboration and knowledge sharing between stakeholders and brain researchers have proved detrimental. To ease this corporation the Human Brain Project developed the research infrastructure EBRAINS.
EBRAINS offers a vast selection of datasets, an advanced brain atlas, modelling and simulation tools, access to computer resources, robot technology, and platforms aimed at researchers.
Community Building within the Human Brain Project and EBRAINS
Apart from Responsible Research in the Human Brain Project the Danish Board of Technology is also responsible for building the community (Community Building) around the research infrastructure EBRAINS – ensuring that the community represents all the disciplines within HBP, as well as bringing together additional important and relevant stakeholders, such as patient organisations, and representatives of the industry. The purpose of Community Building is to make sure that the broader society benefits from the work that goes on in HBP and EBRAINS – by ensuring the representation of stakeholders is as broad as possible – and thereby enabling new collaborations and targeted research to take place.
The result of our work with Community Building in HBP is an online platform – a community space – where members can network, collab, and co-create internationally. The vision and purpose of the online space are to make collaboration more accessible and to remove obstacles such as geographical placement.
