SOREC2 – Developing a new way of harvesting energy from the sun and reusing CO2

The SOREC2 project aims at developing a breakthrough technology for a direct transformation of sunlight and CO2 into chemicals for safe energy storage.

Reducing the CO2 emissions are of utmost importance to combat climate change and moving towards a sustainable future. We have committed to move away from fossil fuels and reducing our CO2 footprint both in The Paris Agreement and The Green New Deal.

The SOREC2 project aims at reducing CO2 in the atmosphere by developing a breakthrough technology, that directly transforms sunlight and CO2 into chemicals, such as ethanol and ethylene. These chemicals have a wide range of uses, such as a safe energy storage, fuels, and input to produce plastics.

The new technology that will be developed in SOREC2 will change the way we produce and consume by ending our dependency on fossil fuels and instead using the energy of the sun to reuse the CO2 that has already been released into new products and fuels.

DBT will be part of the SOREC2 project to ensure that the new technology will be shaped in and informed by a corporation between citizens, experts, stakeholders, and decision makers.

The projects start in November 2022 and ends in October 2025.
