What should Tommerup look like in the future and why should one move there? The municipality will ask this and several other questions of 200 representatively selected citizens when Assens’ municipality in collaboration with The Danish Board of Technology Foundation holds a citizen’s summit on May 21^st, 2016 on the coming development plan for Tommerup.

From February 2016 until the summer of 2017, Assens’ municipality will be conducting three coherent projects on the future development of the Tommerup area; one on climate adaption, one on an overall development plan and one on a district plan for Tommerup West. This was the basis for conducting this citizens’ summit.

The Tommerup area holds a lot of potential for the municipality, as it offers the potential for an increase of citizens living within Assens’ municipality. Tommerup is geographically well-located as it is close to Odense and offers easy access to railroads, express ways and nature. These are some of the possibilities which Assens’ municipality wish to accentuate and strengthen in collaboration with the local citizens.

During the summit, citizens will be asked to give their opinion on a number of questions such as what Tommerup should stand for, the town life and settlements, connection in and to/from Tommerup and finally which initiatives on nature and climate adaption the citizens wants implemented.

The day will start off with a few short presentations followed by discussions at the individual tables and then conclude with a voting on what Tommerup should stand for. Every participant has been invited to visit theme booths managed by the municipality and the neighborhood council both before and after the summit.

On the day, 30 local politicians and members of the neighborhood council will be present. They will act as chairmen at each table and listen to the citizens’ debates and arguments. The citizens’ summit is one of several initiatives by Assens’ municipality, who wish to co-create with citizens and local associations on the area of Tommerup.
